On January 6, Young Man with a Plan officially purchased 1178 River Street in Hyde Park—the building we’ve called home for the past four years. What started as a 1,000 sq ft rental during the pandemic has grown into a vibrant hub with a fitness area, kitchen, shower, laundry, digital arts room, and study/meeting spaces. Now, with this purchase, we’re adding another 2,000 sq ft upstairs for expanded college, career, and alumni programming.
This building is more than space—it’s a home base and a safe space in rapidly changing Cleary Square where young men of Boston can learn, connect, grow, and plan their futures. Now more than ever, it is especially meaningful that young men in Boston have a place to build a sense of belonging and aspiration.
Our young men build cross-neighborhood friendships, make academic and social-emotional gains, and attend college at roughly twice the rate of their peers. Alumni are now entrepreneurs, educators, engineers, tradespeople, and members of the military.
